Mishnah Shabbat 1:2ืžืฉื ื” ืฉื‘ืช ืืณ:ื‘ืณ
After having dealt with the limited and defined topic of the halakhot of carrying out on Shabbat, the mishna begins to deal with the halakhot of Shabbat chronologically, beginning with activities that one may not perform prior to the onset of Shabbat. With regard to oneโ€™s daily conduct, the mishna says: A person may not sit before the barber adjacent to the time of minแธฅa until he recites the afternoon prayer. And a person may not enter the bathhouse and may not enter to work in a tannery [burseki]. And he may neither begin to eat a meal nor to sit in judgment until he prays. And however, if they already began engaging in those activities, they need not stop and recite the Amida prayer. The tanna articulated a principle: One stops engaging in all of these activities to recite Shema and one does not stop to recite the Amida prayer.

2. It is permitted to fix one's clothing or vessels during the whole day. RAMA: This is the law as it relates to his friend's clothes, if it is necessary for Shabbat and he does not receive a reward (Beis Yosef). This law applies to one who writes books for himself in the course of his studies. RAMA: But it is forbidden to write for his friend for money (Mordechai). One may get a haircut all day even from a Jewish barber (Kol Bo and Beis Yosef). There are those who lessen the amount they study on Erev Shabbat in order to perform all the necessities for Shabbat.

10. One is not liable in destroying the corner of the beard except by means of a razor, however by scissors it is permitted, even cutting so close as a razor. Rem"a: But in any case we are cautious when trimming with scissors to do the shaving motion with the upper piece of the scissors and not with the bottom piece, lest one does it all with the bottom piece and it be as a razor (See Siman 395). Anyhow, it seems that under the throat there is no concern about this, since it is not the main location of the pe'ot.
